What The Universe Is: Cindy Veach and July Westhale

Join poets Cindy Veach and July Westhale (Poetry, June 2013) for the latest session of What The Universe Is, the online poetry reading series founded by Michael Mercurio (Poetry, January 2017).
Cindy Veach is the author of three full-length poetry collections: Monster Galaxy; Her Kind; and Gloved Against Blood. She is also the author of the chapbook, Innocents. Her poems have appeared in The Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day Series, AGNI, Chicago Review, Prairie Schooner, Poet Lore, Michigan Quarterly Review, Diode, The Journal, Nimrod, North American Review, Verse Daily, and elsewhere. Cindy received an MFA from the University of Oregon where she was a graduate teaching fellow and an assistant poetry editor for Northwest Review. She is co-poetry editor of MER (Mom Egg Review).
July Westhale’s books include moon moon, Trailer Trash, Unmade Hearts, and Via Negativa. Ocean Vuong chose Westhale as the 2018 University of Arizona Poetry Center Fellow. Their translation of the Chilean poet Rolando Cardenas’ collected works was selected for the 2026 Unsung Masters Series (forthcoming from Pleiades Press). They have work in McSweeney’s, DIAGRAM, The National Poetry Review, Prairie Schooner, CALYX, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and The Huffington Post, among others.
