DESCRIPTION:Join poets Cindy Veach and July Westhale (Poetry\, June 2013) for the latest session of What The Universe Is\, the online poetry reading series founded by Michael Mercurio (Poetry\, January 2017). \n\n\n\nCindy Veach is the author of three full-length poetry collections: Monster Galaxy; Her Kind; and Gloved Against Blood. She is also the author of the chapbook\, Innocents. Her poems have appeared in The Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day Series\, AGNI\, Chicago Review\, Prairie Schooner\, Poet Lore\, Michigan Quarterly Review\, Diode\, The Journal\, Nimrod\, North American Review\, Verse Daily\, and elsewhere. Cindy received an MFA from the University of Oregon where she was a graduate teaching fellow and an assistant poetry editor for Northwest Review. She is co-poetry editor of MER (Mom Egg Review). \n\n\n\nJuly Westhale’s books include moon moon\, Trailer Trash\, Unmade Hearts\, and Via Negativa. Ocean Vuong chose Westhale as the 2018 University of Arizona Poetry Center Fellow. Their translation of the Chilean poet Rolando Cardenas’ collected works was selected for the 2026 Unsung Masters Series (forthcoming from Pleiades Press). They have work in McSweeney’s\, DIAGRAM\, The National Poetry Review\, Prairie Schooner\, CALYX\, Hayden’s Ferry Review\, and The Huffington Post\, among others.

DESCRIPTION:Join author Abbie Harlow (WFYP\, June 2019) at Books Inc. in Alameda to read and sign copies of her first novel\, The Butterfly’s Sting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNever again. That’s what seventeen-year-old Bo Clark has promised her two younger siblings ever since they were put in separate foster homes―a situation that nearly turned deadly for her little brother\, and that they have vowed never to repeat. Bo will do anything to keep that promise. Even if it means enduring the abuse of Uncle Jack\, their new guardian. When Jack discovers that Bo has a talent for boxing\, he signs her up for an underground fight club tournament\, which could bring in enough money for her to move out with her siblings as soon as she turns eighteen. \n\n\n\nBut the ring is a brutal place\, and when Bo’s cutman is arrested\, Jack is forced to bring a new one onto the team. Liam turns out to be a schoolmate of Bo’s\, and even as the two of them grow closer\, she worries that he will go to the authorities if he ever finds out Jack is hurting her. \n\n\n\nAs Bo makes her way closer to the big prize\, Jack starts to set his sights beyond the tournament\, and in an explosive finale\, the violence moves outside the ring\, putting everything Bo loves at risk.
