SUMMARY:Cambridge Common Writers Presents: Still Healing by Rosalind Kaplan
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the virtual launch of Rosalind Kaplan’s (Nonfiction\, June 2020) memoir-in-essays\, Still Healing! Rosalind will be in conversation with her fellow cohort member Robbie Gamble. There will be an opportunity for a Q&A at the end of the event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe American view of doctors vacillates between seeing them as heroes with hearts of gold and nerves of steel and disparaging them as arrogant\, callous\, and careless. The truth lies between: Doctors are human beings with professional training that\, at best\, allows them to heal people and\, at worst\, to harm or even hasten death. Still Healing\, a memoir in essays\, explores the complicated realm of medical training\, practice\, and culture. With vulnerability and humor\, it gives a glimpse into the world of a doctor and an honest and sometimes searing view of our healthcare system.

SUMMARY:CCW Presents: The Extraordinary Orbit of Alex Ramirez by Jasminne Paulino Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us to help launch Jasminne Paulino’s (WFYP\, June 2023) debut novel in verse\, The Extraordinary Orbit of Alex Ramirez. Jasminne will be in conversation with fellow WFYP alum Kate Fussner (June 2021) for this virtual event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeventh grader Alex’s favorite things to do are watching YouTube videos of rocket launches with his Papi and spending hours on the NASA website reading about astronauts and planets. He even dreams of going to space one day himself\, and knows he’ll have to study hard in order to get there. \n\n\n\nBut Alex is in his grade’s SC (self-contained) classroom\, which means doing the same dull worksheets every day and reading books his sister read back in the third grade. Worst of all\, being in SC means nobody thinks he’s ready to join Ms. Rosef’s mainstream science class—the class Alex knows will be the first step on his path to NASA. \n\n\n\nWhen his teacher says “not yet” for the millionth time\, Alex decides it’s time to make a change. Now he’s ready to try everything he can to get the people in his life—his teachers\, his parents\, and the kids at school—to understand that he\, Alex Ramirez\, is capable of the extraordinary.

SUMMARY:Heat\, Honey\, Smoke - A Sexual Impressionism Workshop with Celeste Mohammed
DESCRIPTION:Here\, in the intimate tradition of the botánica\, where candles cast passionate shadows and smoke coils from brass bowls\, this generative workshop\, led by Celeste Mohammed (Fiction\, June 2016) invites writers to regard the literary sex scene as something more than performance. Wielding pen as brush\, you will apply the techniques of the art world to capture impressions of sensuality that feel emotionally true and spiritually resonant. Here\, sensuality is not a spectacle\, but a residue\, felt in breath\, in pause\, in what’s left unsaid. Writers will experiment with language that conjures rather than declares\, gesture over anatomy\, feeling over form. Together\, you’ll write toward the charged space between the lines–toward the heat\, the honey\, the smoke.

SUMMARY:East End Books Ptown presents: L Scully "Self-Romancing" in conv. w/ Zac Smith and Madison Murray
DESCRIPTION:Visit East End Books in Provincetown to celebrate the launch of L Scully’s (Nonfiction\, January 2023) poetry collection\, Self-Romancing. L will be in conversation with Zac Smith and Madison Murray. You can also watch the event through the store’s Facebook page. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn a tonal mash-up of Jenny Holzer’s Truisms\, confessional poetry\, and fortune telling\, Self-Romancing draws you into the amorous and obsessive inner life of an unnamed romantic. Relatable and snarky\, heartfelt and horny\, L Scully fortifies irony with vulnerability\, bringing readers into a narrative as intimate as slumber parties and ordinary as Trader Joe’s. Bursting with the giddy charm of the everyday\, Self-Romancing plays with form\, turning a book into a crush\, a crank call\, a manifesto.
