Dead Ladies Show NYC #34 with Miriam Torres, Juliette Clark, and Suzanne Cope
May 8, 2025 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm EST
Visit the KGB Bar to raise a glass to three deceased dames who changed the world. You’ll be learning about an 19th-century entrepreneur (Eliza Jumel); a queer, trans activist, scholar, and priest (Pauli Murray); and an Italian anti-fascist fighter (Carla Capponi). Presented by a lady-about-town, a paralegal, and an author, respectively, with a smattering of commentary from the co-hosts Molly O. Kemper and Sheila Enright.
Your Presenters:
MIRIAM TORRES is a living lady who’s thrilled to be presenting on one of the night’s fabulous dead ladies. When she’s not zipping around NYC on a Citibike (and getting a rush out of yelling ‘BIKE LANE!’ at pedestrians), you’ll find her exploring museums, browsing thrift stores, and enjoying all the fascinating things (and people) this great city has to offer.
JULIETTE CLARK is a recent Duke grad – turned transplant living and working as an affordable housing paralegal in New York City. They grew up in Colorado, and then moved to North Carolina at 14, ending up about a mile away from the childhood home of their dead person of choice.
SUZANNE COPE (Nonfiction, 2007) is the author of two books: WOMEN OF WAR: The Italian Assassins, Spies and Couriers Who Fought the Nazis (Dutton, 2025) and POWER HUNGRY: Women of the Black Panther Party and Freedom Summer and Their Fight to Feed a Movement (2021). She has also written for The Atlantic, CNN, New York Times, BBC, among others, and is a professor at NYU.
