SUMMARY:Adam Theater Presents: Library Lion
DESCRIPTION:“‬Library Lion\,” based on one of Time Magazine’s 100 ‬best Children’s books of all time\, by Michelle Knudsen (WFYP\, MFA Writing Faculty). The musical play features a cast of five actors and three puppeteers who operate a puppet designed and built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop with live music. Directed by award winning director\, Ran Bechor. \n\n\n\nAfter all spots of the inaugural show as a site-specific play at Boston Public Library have been taken – Adam Theater is proud to present for the first time in the USA the theater adaptation of Library Lion. In the library\, there are books. But also very clear rules: no shouting\, no running\, no eating or drinking. But what happens when one day a lion enters the library? He doesn’t roar or rampage\, and contrary to expectations\, he peacefully joins storytelling hour. Not everyone is okay with this\, after all\, he doesn’t abide by the rules. (A lion? In the library? – that’s completely out of order!) It will be revealed that rules are important to follow\, but not only that: That it is also very important\, here and there\, to dust off some of these rule books as well. \n\n\n\nPlaywright & Lyrics by Eli Bijaoui\, Award winning Director Ran Bechor\, Music by Yoni Rechter.

SUMMARY:Author Study with Kwame Alexander and special guest Jason Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:During this 45-minute virtual author visit\, Kwame teams up with his friend Jason Reynolds (WFYP\, MFA Writing Faculty) to teach young readers and writers about generating ideas in writing – and more. \n\n\n\nStudents will hear Kwame read from his new book\, Black Star\, then learn a strategy for idea generation in a brief writing craft lesson. Kwame then turns to award-winning\, highly acclaimed author Jason Reynolds for a conversation about his creative process as an author\, poet and podcaster. Students will hear Jason and Kwame discuss where their ideas come from\, how they know when it’s time to pursue a writing idea (and when to walk away)\, and other tidbits kids can apply to their own writing practice. \n\n\n\nThis livestreamed author visit wraps with a live Q&A session\, in which Kwame answers select questions from the webinar chat. This Author Study event is recommended for upper-elementary\, middle\, and high school students who may be more familiar with Jason’s work – but students of all ages and grade levels are welcome. \n\n\n\nThis event will run 45 minutes (1:00 -1:45pm ET / 10:00 – 10:45am PT) and will include an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter. SUMMARY:Jason Reynolds discusses Twenty-four Seconds from Now...:A LOVE Story
DESCRIPTION:Join Vroman’s Bookstore for this ticketed event with #1 New York Times bestselling author Jason Reynolds (WFYP\, MFA Writing Faculty) as he discusses his latest book\, Twenty-four Seconds from Now . . . \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n#1 New York Times bestselling author Jason Reynolds tackles it—you know…it—from the guy’s perspective in this unfiltered and undeniably sweet stream of consciousness story of a teen boy about to experience a huge first. \n\n\n\nTwenty-four months ago: Neon gets chased by a dog all around the parking lot of a church. Not his finest moment. And definitely one he would have loved to forget if it weren’t for the dog’s owner: Aria. Dressed in sweats\, a t-shirt\, hair in a ponytail. Aria. Way more than fine. \n\n\n\nTwenty-four weeks ago: Neon’s dad insists on talking to him about tenderness and intimacy. Neon and Aria are definitely in love\, and while they haven’t taken that next big step…yet\, they’ve starting talking about…that. \n\n\n\nTwenty-four days ago: Neon’s mom finds her—gulp—bra in his room. Hey! No judging! Those hook thingies are complicated! So he’d figured he’d better practice\, what with the big day only a month away. \n\n\n\nTwenty-four minutes ago: Neon leaves his shift at work at his dad’s bingo hall\, making sure to bring some chicken tenders for Aria. They’re not candlelight and they definitely aren’t caviar\, but they are her favorite. \n\n\n\nAnd right this second? Neon is locked in Aria’s bathroom\, completely freaking out because twenty-four seconds from now he and Aria are about to…about to… Well\, they won’t do anything if he can’t get out of his own head (all the advice\, insecurities\, and what ifs) and out of this bathroom! \n\n\n\nNote: the subject matter of this book contains PG-13 material and is not recommended for the youngest of readers. \n\n\n\n**All tickets include a signed copy of Twenty-Four Seconds from Now . . .: A LOVE Story as well as admittance to the meet and greet line for a photo with Jason.

SUMMARY:Chris Lynch\, author of Walkin' the Dog\, in conversation with Sara Farizan
DESCRIPTION:Porter Square Books welcomes Chris Lynch (WFYP\, MFA Writing Faculty) for the release of Walkin’ the Dog! Author Sara Farizan (WFYP\, January 2012) will join Lynch in conversation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA boy learns how to be a friend from man’s best friend in this funny and moving middle grade novel about humans being able to change and dogs changing us from acclaimed author Chris Lynch. In a family of strong personalities with very strong points of view\, Louis is what his mother lovingly calls “the inactivist\,” someone who’d rather kick back than stand out. He only hopes he can stay under the radar when he starts high school in the fall\, his first experience with public school after years of homeschooling. But when a favor for a neighbor and his stinky canine companion unexpectedly turns into a bustling dog-walking business\, Louis finds himself meeting an unprecedented number of new friends—both human and canine. Agatha\, a quippy and cagey girl his age always seems to be telling two truths and a lie. Cyrus\, a few years his senior\, promises he’s going to show Louis how to be a better person\, whether Louis wants him to or not. And then there are the dogs: misbehaving border terriers\, the four (possible stolen) sausage dogs\, the rest of Louis’s charges\, and a mysterious white beast who appears at a certain spot at the edge of the woods.Dogs and human alike all seem to have something they want to teach Louis\, including his menacing older brother who keeps turning up everywhere. But is Louis ready to learn the lesson he needs most: how to stop being a lone wolf and be part of a pack? \n\n\n\nChris Lynch is the award–winning author of several highly acclaimed young adult novels\, including Printz Honor Book Freewill\, Iceman\, Gypsy Davey\, and Shadow Boxer—all ALA Best Books for Young Adults—as well as Killing Time in Crystal City\, Little Blue Lies\, Pieces\, Kill Switch\, Angry Young Man\, and Inexcusable\, which was a National Book Award finalist and the recipient of six starred reviews. SUMMARY:Steven Cramer and Pamela Petro at Tidepool Bookshop
DESCRIPTION:Steven Cramer (Poetry\, MFA Writing Faculty) and Pamela Petro (Nonficton/Graphic Novel & Comics\, MFA Writing Faculty) will be at Tidepool Bookshop to read and discuss their respective works\, Departures from Rilke and The Long Field. \n\n\n\nSteven Cramer’s newest book of poems\, Departures from Rilke\, derives from his favorites among Rainer Maria Rilke’s two volumes of New Poems (1907/08). Cramer repurposes\, updates\, and sometimes upends the subject matter and style of the originals\, often leaving Rilke’s premises almost altogether. A practice dating back to Thomas Wyatt’s imports of Petrarch and including Robert Lowell’s Imitations (1961)\, Cramer’s approach makes for an original poetry of personal and contemporary resonance\, while remaining alert to Rilke’s chastening presence. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn The Long Field\, Pamela Petro braids essential hiraeth stories of Wales with tales from her own life—as an American who found an ancient home in Wales\, as a gay woman\, as the survivor of a terrible AMTRAK train crash\, and as the daughter of a parent with dementia. Through the pull and tangle of these stories and her travels throughout Wales\, hiraeth takes on radical new meanings. There is traditional hiraeth of place and home\, but also queer hiraeth; and hiraeth triggered by technology\, immigration\, ecological crises\, and our new divisive politics. On this journey\, the notion begins to morph from a uniquely Welsh experience to a universal human condition\, from deep longing to the creative responses to loss that Petro sees as the genius of Welsh culture. It becomes a tool to understand ourselves in our time.
