SUMMARY:East End Books Ptown presents: L Scully "Self-Romancing" in conv. w/ Zac Smith and Madison Murray
DESCRIPTION:Visit East End Books in Provincetown to celebrate the launch of L Scully’s (Nonfiction\, January 2023) poetry collection\, Self-Romancing. L will be in conversation with Zac Smith and Madison Murray. You can also watch the event through the store’s Facebook page. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn a tonal mash-up of Jenny Holzer’s Truisms\, confessional poetry\, and fortune telling\, Self-Romancing draws you into the amorous and obsessive inner life of an unnamed romantic. Relatable and snarky\, heartfelt and horny\, L Scully fortifies irony with vulnerability\, bringing readers into a narrative as intimate as slumber parties and ordinary as Trader Joe’s. Bursting with the giddy charm of the everyday\, Self-Romancing plays with form\, turning a book into a crush\, a crank call\, a manifesto.

SUMMARY:Heat\, Honey\, Smoke - A Sexual Impressionism Workshop with Celeste Mohammed
DESCRIPTION:Here\, in the intimate tradition of the botánica\, where candles cast passionate shadows and smoke coils from brass bowls\, this generative workshop\, led by Celeste Mohammed (Fiction\, June 2016) invites writers to regard the literary sex scene as something more than performance. Wielding pen as brush\, you will apply the techniques of the art world to capture impressions of sensuality that feel emotionally true and spiritually resonant. Here\, sensuality is not a spectacle\, but a residue\, felt in breath\, in pause\, in what’s left unsaid. Writers will experiment with language that conjures rather than declares\, gesture over anatomy\, feeling over form. Together\, you’ll write toward the charged space between the lines–toward the heat\, the honey\, the smoke.

SUMMARY:CCW Presents: The Extraordinary Orbit of Alex Ramirez by Jasminne Paulino Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us to help launch Jasminne Paulino’s (WFYP\, June 2023) debut novel in verse\, The Extraordinary Orbit of Alex Ramirez. Jasminne will be in conversation with fellow WFYP alum Kate Fussner (June 2021) for this virtual event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeventh grader Alex’s favorite things to do are watching YouTube videos of rocket launches with his Papi and spending hours on the NASA website reading about astronauts and planets. He even dreams of going to space one day himself\, and knows he’ll have to study hard in order to get there. \n\n\n\nBut Alex is in his grade’s SC (self-contained) classroom\, which means doing the same dull worksheets every day and reading books his sister read back in the third grade. Worst of all\, being in SC means nobody thinks he’s ready to join Ms. Rosef’s mainstream science class—the class Alex knows will be the first step on his path to NASA. \n\n\n\nWhen his teacher says “not yet” for the millionth time\, Alex decides it’s time to make a change. Now he’s ready to try everything he can to get the people in his life—his teachers\, his parents\, and the kids at school—to understand that he\, Alex Ramirez\, is capable of the extraordinary.

SUMMARY:An Author Event with Suzanne Cope at The Hound Books
DESCRIPTION:Join The Hound Books for an author event with narrative journalist Suzanne Cope (Nonfiction\, 2007) as she discusses Women of War\, the gripping\, true\, and untold story of the Italian women’s resistance during World War II. In early September 1943\, Italy surrendered to the Allies. But the Nazis were prepared and quickly took over the country\, aided by Italian Fascist loyalists. Grassroots resistance fighters began organizing immediately\, and Italian women were integral to their efforts\, serving as underground soliders\, intrepid spies\, cunning saboteurs\, and much more. Using primary sources and brand new scholarship\, historian Suzanne Cope unearths the hidden history of the brave women who risked their lives to liberate Italy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSuzanne Cope is a scholar and narrative journalist\, and is the author of Power Hungry: Women of the Black Panther Party and Freedom Summer and Their Fight to Feed a Movement. Her work on themes of political and social change\, feminism\, food\, and culture has appeared in The New York Times\, The Atlantic\, Los Angeles Review of Books\, Food & Wine\, BBC\, Washington Post\, Aeon\, and others. She is a professor at New York University.

SUMMARY:Cambridge Common Writers Presents: Still Healing by Rosalind Kaplan
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the virtual launch of Rosalind Kaplan’s (Nonfiction\, June 2020) memoir-in-essays\, Still Healing! Rosalind will be in conversation with her fellow cohort member Robbie Gamble. There will be an opportunity for a Q&A at the end of the event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe American view of doctors vacillates between seeing them as heroes with hearts of gold and nerves of steel and disparaging them as arrogant\, callous\, and careless. The truth lies between: Doctors are human beings with professional training that\, at best\, allows them to heal people and\, at worst\, to harm or even hasten death. Still Healing\, a memoir in essays\, explores the complicated realm of medical training\, practice\, and culture. With vulnerability and humor\, it gives a glimpse into the world of a doctor and an honest and sometimes searing view of our healthcare system.

SUMMARY:Jasminne Paulino launches "The Extraordinary Orbit of Alex Ramirez" with Lofty Pigeon Books
DESCRIPTION:Join Lofty Pigeon Books for the launch of The Extraordinary Orbit of Alex Ramirez\, Jasminne Paulino’s (WFYP\, June 2023) powerful debut novel in verse about a neurodivergent seventh grader who dreams of traveling to the stars one day. \n\n\n\nJasminne will be joined by New York Times–bestselling children’s author Michelle Knudsen (WFYP\, MFA Writing Faculty) for a reading\, conversation\, signing\, and reception.

SUMMARY:Author Talk & Book Signing with Cindy House
DESCRIPTION:Visit Obodo Serendipity Books to see Cindy House (Fiction\, June 2017) in conversation with Zach Miko about her memoir\, Mother Noise. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the opening of this “unexpectedly uplifting…masterfully crafted memoir” (Shelf Awareness\, starred review) Cindy\, twenty years into recovery after a heroin addiction\, grapples with how to tell her nine-year-old son about her past. She wants him to learn this history from her\, not anyone else; but she worries about the effect this truth may have on him. Told in essays and graphic narrative shorts\, Mother Noise is a stunning memoir that delves deep into our responsibilities as parents while celebrating the moments of grace and generosity that mark a true friendship—in this case\, her benefactor and champion through the years\, David Sedaris. \n\n\n\nThis is a powerful memoir about addiction\, motherhood\, and Cindy’s ongoing effort to reconcile the two. Are we required to share with our children the painful details of our past\, or do we owe them protection from the harsh truth of who we were before?

Pearson is the author of many novels for teens\, including Dance of Thieves\, Vow of Thieves\, the New York Times–bestselling Remnant Chronicles—The Kiss of Deception\, The Heart of Betrayal\, and The Beauty of Darkness—and the acclaimed Jenna Fox Chronicles. She writes full-time from her home in Carlsbad\, California. \n\n\n\nAxie Oh is the New York Times bestselling author of The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea\, the Floating World duology\, XOXO and ASAP\, and the Rebel Seoul series. Born in New York City and raised in New Jersey\, she studied Korean history and creative writing as an undergrad at the University of California San Diego and holds an MFA in Writing for Young People from Lesley University. Her passions include K-pop\, anime\, stationery supplies\, and milk tea\, and she currently resides in Las Vegas\, Nevada\, with her dogs\, Toro and Leila. \n\n\n\nD.L. Though she hails from the sunny lands of California\, she married a Midwestern boy and ended up settling down outside Chicago. She has three kids\, two cats\, and minimal sanity\, but in the quiet hours before dawn she likes to write about magic\, mischief\, and moral quandaries. The Beasts We Bury is her YA debut. \n\n\n\nJessi Dunlap taught high school English for 14 years before becoming a school librarian. She works at a middle school in the metro Atlanta area and loves cats\, puzzles\, and helping her students find their next favorite book.
