SUMMARY:More Than One Story: The Many Faces of Latinadad
DESCRIPTION:A Roundtable on the Latinx & Afro-Latinx Experience in the Literary World \n\n\n\nFeaturing: Clarence A. Haynes\, J.L. Polanco\, Saraciea J. Fennell (WFYP\, January 2020)\, Adrian Cepeda\, and Matteo J. \n\n\n\nLatinidad has never been one story\, one race\, one experience\, or one way of moving through the world. \n\n\n\nMore Than One Story: The Many Faces of Latinidad brings together Latinx and Afro-Latinx authors\, publishers\, booksellers\, educators\, and creators for an honest conversation about identity\, race\, representation\, and what it means to navigate the literary world while carrying identities that are often simplified—or left out of the conversation altogether. \n\n\n\nWhether you identify as Latinx or Afro-Latinx\, work in books or education\, are a reader interested in these conversations\, or simply want to listen and learn\, you’re welcome in the room. \n\n\n\nBecause there isn’t one Latinx experience. \n\n\n\nThere are many identities\, histories\, languages\, cultures\, complexities\, and stories. \n\n\n\nAnd they all deserve room on the page.

SUMMARY:Double Author Story Time Book Launch at Whitelam Books with Ellen Mayer & Sara Levine
DESCRIPTION:Visit Whitelam Books in Reading\, MA for a special double story time to celebrate the book launch of author Ellen Mayer (Flutter\, Flap\, Fly!) where she will be joined by author Sara Levine (WFYP/Nonfiction\, January 2006) (A Visit With the Birds: A Hands-on Nature Book) to both share their latest books. \n\n\n\nFlutter\, Flap\, Fly!: Teo rides on Papi’s shoulders to the playground\, wishing he could soar and swoop like the birds above. He pretends to be a bird\, fluttering his arms like one splashing in a puddle. Soon\, his favorite playground structure transforms into a big tree as new playmates take little Teo under their wing\, and together they peck\, hop\, and fly\, giving Teo the courage to soar and swoop like the birds. \n\n\n\nA Visit With the Birds: A Hands-on Nature Book: Connect with nature in this interactive trip to an urban park full of wildlife! Little ones will be prompted to count the birds they see\, point out colors\, spread birdseed\, and keep an eye out for other critters. As they follow and interact with the story\, kids will learn how to use their senses to take in the amazing natural world around them.

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Blue Life by Mundy McLaughlin
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this virtual launch of Mundy McLaughlin’s (Fiction\, January 2019) debut novel\, Blue Life! \n\n\n\nBlue Life follows the divergent paths of an art student and an aspiring actress who meet as performers in the legendary “Go-Go” dancing scene of late 1970s New Jersey. With their shared experiences Luna and Didi form an instant connection\, but while Luna’s path ascends through her work as a burgeoning artist in New York City\, Didi’s life spirals downwards. \n\n\n\nA compelling story of friendship\, loyalty and love as well as the devastating effects of mental illness\, Blue Life offers a unique look at the seedy New Jersey go-go scene\, the vibrant clubs of New York City in the late ’70s and early ’80s and the East Village’s vibrant art scene. \n\n\n\nBlue Life transports readers to a unique time when everything felt like it should be possible\, offering an unflinching look behind the perceived boundaries of friendship and the limits of sexual power with a cast of memorable characters whose individual stories live with you long after the story is over.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMundy will be joined in conversation by her fellow fiction alumna\, Liz Shick. Discussion will be followed by a Q&A.
