The event will include readings\, and participation by the audience. Themes include gun violence\, and how we perceive threats to our selves and our societies. The framing of South African and American artists and audiences will allow for an international exploration of creativity and violence.  \n\n\n\nThis exhibition is a traveling exhibition. SUMMARY:Around the World Book Signing with Jorge Armenteros
DESCRIPTION:Visit the English bookshop Librairie Masséna Around the World (58 Rue Gioffredo) in Nice\, France on Saturday 9th November from 5pm to 7pm when author Jorge Armenteros (Fiction\, June 2012) will be signing copies of his latest book – The Curvature of an Absence. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt the edge of a vanishing sea and under the light of a fading sun\, two writers struggle to understand the sudden absence of affective and natural elements from their lives. As they seek a beautiful but rather elusive presence\, they are forced to confront that which is no longer there. To unravel the mysterious absences\, they embark on the improbable project of writing a book. Their erratic journey produces a book that reveals nothing and everything\, but above all\, that reflects the ardent light of a nascent understanding. \n\n\n\nJorge Armenteros was born in 1961 in Havana. Persecuted by the regime\, his family sought asylum as political refugees in Madrid. Soon after\, the USA granted his family entry and they transitioned through Tampa before settling in Puerto Rico. He was the first student in his school to be accepted to Harvard University. There he took several courses in Spanish and Latin American Literature while completing his biomedical engineering degree. Literature\, nonetheless\, was breathing inside of him. So\, he decided to pursue an MFA in creative writing at Lesley University in Cambridge. The Curvature of an Absence is his seventh novel.

It’s a safe space for QTBIPOC womxn Survivors. \n\n\n\nAlkiewicz\, a Labrador Inuk\, is a Survivor and remade her life in the Connecticut River Valley. She has taught classes for the Edmonton LifeLong Learners\, Mt. Holyoke College\, North American Indian Center of Boston and recently at The Parlor Room. Alkiewicz\, a Nunatsiavut Beneficiary and dual citizen\, has been published in DarkWinter Literary Magazine\, Inuktitut\, Leaflit\, and more. An insightful response to American gun violence and illusions of public and private safety\, it’s also about her journey over the past decade toward living with an open heart\, alive to luck\, learning\, and love. \n\n\n\nChanlee Luu – The Machine Autocorrects Code to I \n\n\n\nA knock-out debut that erases the boundaries of time and geography with unrestrained wit\, The Machine Autocorrects Code to I holds its subjects – family members at odds with their hopes and fears\, various fruits and animals constrained by the laws of humans\, and an alien seeking beauty in the world – with tenderness and wry knowledge of the fragile systems that hold their world in place. This universe of poems wanders through the messy past\, battles in the charged present\, and dreams/nightmares to the unknown future. In this experiment in forms\, Chanlee Luu is a mad scientist\, cracking Asian jokes\, shoveling golden sand\, and coding her voice to vitality.

After studying philosophy in college and public policy in graduate school\, he worked for more than two decades on global poverty and human rights\, publishing academic articles and books on development economics and behavioral economics. He now teaches at Princeton University and lives with his family in Bethesda\, Maryland. His short fiction was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and in Best American Nonrequired Reading. He was a Summer Writer-in-Residence at Washington\, DC’s the Inner Loop. For the Blessings of Jupiter and Venus is his first novel. \n\n\n\nMegan Doney teaches composition\, literature\, and creative writing at New River Community College in Virginia. Her work has appeared in Ilanot Review\, Rappahannock Review\, Creative Nonfiction\, and other literary journals\, as well as the anthologies Allegheny and If I Don’t Make It\, I Love You: Survivors in the Aftermath of School Shootings. DESCRIPTION:ENTROPY is a five week\, virtual\, generative writing workshop hosted by L Scully (Nonfiction\, January 2023).  \n\n\n\nWe are living in a conundrum of degradation. Our bodies age\, the State is falling\, disorder(s) run rampant in our minds. God feels random and chaos feels inevitable. There is no choice but to write toward uncertainty. Cope\, world-build\, freak out\, investigate together.  \n\n\n\nThe structure of this workshop is a weekly meeting of two hours and includes two separate section groups to accommodate scheduling. Each week we will produce the beginnings of 2+ new pieces of writing based on original prompts provided by L live and in session. There is also opportunity to share our collective woes\, check in\, and meet writing partners. One piece of your choice will be critiqued by the group in a supportive and curious environment. We welcome new and seasoned writers alike\, as well as anyone who wants to get into a regular and dedicated creative practice. SUMMARY:Introduction to Book Arts: Make Your Own Chapbook with Frances Donovan
DESCRIPTION:Books aren’t just blocks of text. They’re also physical objects\, and in some cases they become art themselves. Hand-sewn chapbooks (from “cheap-book”) are a simple and timeless way to preserve words and even art. Join Frances Donovan (Poetry\, June 2019) and peruse a collection of chapbooks that show the various techniques used to make them. Then make your own! You may choose to make a blank book\, to write in it\, or to send some text in advance to be printed and incorporated into your book. \n\n\n\nAll supplies included. Bring any writing you’d like to include in a book\, but the program will provide blank pages for a blank-for-now book. \n\n\n\nInstructor: Frances Donovan’s book Arboretum in a Jar (Lily Poetry Review Books\, 2023) was nominated for the Massachusetts Book Award. Her chapbook Mad Quick Hand of the Seashore was a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award. Donovan’s poems have appeared in Lily Poetry Review\, Solstice\, Heavy Feather Review\, SWWIM\, and elsewhere. Her interviews of other poets can be found at The Rumpus and on her website\, www.gardenofwords.com. Donovan holds an MFA in poetry from Lesley University and is a certified Poet Educator with Mass Poetry. A poem of hers has been displayed at Boston City Hall. Donovan’s work deals with themes of home\, family\, intergenerational trauma\, and sexual and gender identity. She remembers fondly the summer of 1998\, when she drove a bulldozer in a Pride parade while wearing a bustier.

DESCRIPTION:In this course\, led by Angelo D’Amato (Fiction\, June 2020)\, will look at William Faulkner’s “The Sound and the Fury\,” Virginia Woolf’s “The Waves\,” and excerpts from James Joyce’s “Ulysses” and “Finnegans Wake\,” to understand how this technique challenges how we make meaning of the world\, and how we can harness it to create a music that is entirely our own. At the end of the class\, students will have produced either a short story\, an excerpt from a larger story\, or a portfolio of smaller exercises. \n\n\n\nThis class will meet in-person at CCAE on Tuesdays for 8 weeks.
